What Is SOREL?

In 1962, SOREL was founded in Canada by Kaufman Rubber Company. Originally, they focused on designing shoes for construction and protection. Fast forward to the present, where functionality and fashion are priorities. Although SOREL has been around for decades, it captured people’s attention when it was the star of the 2012 Sundance Festival.

Thanks to social media and celebrities, it’s re-emerging in popularity for providing both durability and style. According to their website, each pair of footwear is crafted from both high and low-traction rubber to provide a strong grip on various surfaces while remaining lightweight and waterproof.

In fact, the brand proudly features on its website explorer Ralph Plaisted and his team trekking across 500 miles of the Arctic to reach the 90° overland in 43 days while wearing SOREL Caribu Boots. In the same vein, Ann Daniels wore the company’s boots on her land-based journey to the North Pole several decades later, becoming the first woman to do so.

Now one woman expresses her love for the SOREL Caribu Boots in the Michigan winter.

What Does This Woman Say?

TikTok creator Lyn (@nisemarie_) is bundled up in layers to stay cozy as she strolls through the snow. “To the girls who recommended the SOREL Caribu Boots, thank you,” she says.

Then, she turns the camera to reveal the black-and-white boots she is wearing. With each step she takes, the blanket of snow crunches and leaves behind footprints. “Because I’m honestly unstoppable in these,” she says. “I don’t care that it is snowing. For real.” But the content creator amends in the on-screen text, “I’m lying. I care.”

Nevertheless, Lyn still praises the shoes, giving them a “10/10” in the caption.

During an interview with The Mary Sue, Lyn reveals how she discovered these shoes and where she bought them.

“I [searched] TikTok for winter boot recommendations, this one was a top-mentioned style/brand,” she shares via email. “Nordstrom Rack. $140 ish.”

Essentially, she likes the durability and comfort the most.

“They are warm and waterproof. Most of all, the traction they have prevents me from slipping on the ice outside,” she said.

Needless to say, the content creator is satisfied with her snowboots.

“Yes I would buy again. I would try other styles. No other brands at this time,” Lyn states. “[I’m pleased] with my purchase and the positive reaction I received after sharing my thoughts.”

What Did Viewers Think Of SOREL?

The video racked up over 344,000 views. Many showered the brand with compliments and revealed the reasons behind it.

“Got the Sorel Tivoli boots and I love them! I feel safe, walking on snow and ice now,” one viewer commented.

Another applauded, “I have sorel house slippers and they are the best. I can also wear them outside too.”

“Sorel anything is awesome!! They are my favorite brand!” a third stated.

Moreover, some were examples of how long-lasting these shoes can be.

“[My Sorel] boots lasted me from 2014 to now. So I’m definitely replacing them with another pair,” one commenter revealed.

“I’ve had my same pair of sorels since 9th grade, I’m 24 now,” a second said.
