‘Lies and gaslighting’: Adam Kinzinger is not letting Trump get away with blaming Biden for the recent National Guard shooting

Once a GOP member, Adama Kinzinger has emerged as one of the strongest critics of Donald Trump and his administration in recent times. In the past couple of months, he has taken multiple digs at Republicans and their leader in chief for their reckless actions, dishonesty, unfounded conspiracy theories, and their inclination to spread hate.

Adam Kinzinger is doing what he knows best: calling out Republicans for their lies. Following the recent shooting in Washington, D.C., which left two National Guard members critically injured, Republicans were trying to blame the incident on Joe Biden and his administration by promoting a narrative that the main suspect in the case, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan immigrant, was in the U.S. because of Biden’s efforts to provide Afghans a safe haven in America. However, later details revealed that although Lakanwal entered the U.S. in 2021 under the Biden administration, he was vetted and granted legal asylum by the Trump administration in April 2025.

Adam Kinzinger is now adding to that information by highlighting on X (formerly Twitter) that in 2021, “almost every Republican” criticised the Biden administration and State Department for being “too slow” in “approving Afghanistan special visas” as Afghanistan fell, pointing out that they are now attacking Biden for doing exactly what they had previously urged him to do. Many who remembered the incident, as Kinzinger shared, agreed with him. One person stated:

“Right on brand for the Trump administration and the MAGA GOP. Lies and gaslighting.”

Another individual said:

“Oh, Adam, it’s almost enough to make you think these people have the memory of a goldfish—or maybe just the moral compass of a weathervane in a Trump windstorm. In 2021, they were screaming “TOO SLOW!” at Biden for not fast-tracking every Afghan ally out of harm’s way after their hero set the May 1 pullout deadline that left us scrambling. Now, when the visas actually flow? “TOO MANY TERRORISTS!”

Several others echoed similar sentiments as they dissed on Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
