Marjorie Taylor Greene is resigning from office, but don’t mistake her reason
On Tuesday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene announced that she was resigning from office. This comes on the heels of her public falling-out with President Donald Trump and her cry for the Epstein Files to be released. She has also recently been pushing back against the MAGA crowd, which undoubtedly had influence on her situation.
Along with a written statement, Greene posted a video where she listed the reasons for her decision. Among those reasons were “self-respect, dignity, and [loving her] family way too much.” Greene’s last day in Congress will be January 5, 2026.
“When the common American people finally realize and understand that the Political Industrial Complex of both parties is ripping this country apart,” writes Greene, “that not one elected leader like me is able to stop Washington’s machine from gradually destroying our country, and instead the reality is that they, common Americans, The People, possess the real power over Washington, then I’ll be
here by their side to rebuild it.”
It is not an altruistic reason. She isn’t doing it to make a point. If MTG really did care about her constituents, she’d stay in Congress to continue pushing back against Trump and the MAGA crowd. Instead, she’s making a grand statement by announcing her leave so she can get sympathy pouring in for her to bolster her own image. She doesn’t care what happens to anybody else.
This letter and video are, predictably, more than enough for her supporters, who are commending her online for her bravery and taking time to care about herself for once (when has she ever not?). It also doesn’t mean that she’s gone for good–if anything, it feels like almost too perfect timing.
As one user on X said, “If she really feels this way, why wouldn’t she stay and fight for the people in the middle? Everyone is out for themselves.”
