We’re Swooning Over Buff Natalie Portman in ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’

Girls don't want boys, girls want Natalie Portman as Mighty Thor.

Ever since Marvel announced ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’, we’ve been amped for the fourth installment of the Thor saga. And this is largely due to Taika Waititi’s hilarious and heartfelt ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, which rejuvenated the series with colorful visuals and plenty of humor. Waititi returns for ‘Love and Thunder’, bringing with him Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster, Thor’s abandoned love interest. But no longer will Portman play a lovestruck scientists on the sidelines. ‘Love and Thunder’ will find Foster reborn as Mighty Thor, wielding Mjolnir and kicking all kinds of ass. We caught a brief glimpse of Portman in the teaser trailer, but exclusive new photos from Empire Magazine give us our first real look at Mighty Thor:

Waititi discussed Portman’s role in the film and how it upends Thor’s life, saying  “It’s been about eight years, … She’s had a whole other life, and then the love of your life comes back on the scene, and is now dressed like you. It’s a real mindfuck for Thor.”

Waititi added that he wanted something new for Portman to do, saying “You don’t want Natalie coming back and playing that same character who’s walking around with science equipment. You know, while Thor’s flying around, she’s left on Earth, tapping her foot going, ‘When’s he going to be back?’ That’s boring. You want her to be part of the adventure.” Waititi will also be making use of Portman’s sense of humor in the film. “Natalie’s really funny in real life,” said Waititi. “She’s kind of goofy and has got a great sense of humour, and I don’t think that was exploited enough in the first films.”

‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ hits theaters July 8, 2022.
