Nicolas Cage in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

Things We Saw Today: Nic Cage Talks About Square Pasta?

I texted my family chat about this.

Everyone is talking about Nicolas Cage right now. With the release of his new movie The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, the complicated actor has been making the press rounds, and it has given us an insight into the actor like never before. And with that comes a look into his favorite kind of pasta?

During his recent AMA, Cage answered a simple question with a thought provoking answer. When asked about his favorite noodle shape, he gave a response that is puzzling food bloggers. “I once went to an Italian restaurant in San Francisco about 25 years ago with Charlie Sheen because they had square tube pasta, and he was very interested in trying square tube pasta, and we did and we loved it so much we went back the next day to try it again.”

Now, as someone who thinks that Nic Cage is one of our greatest Italian Americans (I’m sure my very Italian mother would agree), I’m just as perplexed by the idea as Food52‘s Ella Quittner is. In fact, I would have gone on the spiral of trying to figure out what the pasta was if Quittner hadn’t beaten me to it, and to see that there was no consensus (I refuse to acknowledge the answer being RIGATONI), I might just have to ask my whole family to start thinking.

I have texted my family group chat “Italians, assemble,” so we’ll see what they come up with, but I’m sorry to Quittner that this is breaking the minds of everyone. But if a Coppola (Francis Ford is famously Nic Cage’s uncle) doesn’t know the answer to it (again, it cannot be a rigatoni I REFUSE), I’m just going to assume it’s a made up pasta that is left unnamed.
