Are you gonna let a little thing like politics stand in the way of true love? I imagine that tiring question is what inspired this romance novel I discovered where a green-haired, black lipstick/nail polish-wearing feminist falls in love with a sweet cinnamon roll conservative hulk of a man. She also has her world shattered to star-spangled bits when she realizes that Trump rallies are full of kindhearted Americans, unlike the RAGE-fueled liberals she associates with.
Originally released back in November 2020 (wow, what perfect timing) by an author using the penname Liberty Adams, I just found out about this series thanks to several Twitter posts that said something along the lines of, “If I have to know about this, then you do, too.” Thanks to indy100’s Ariana Baio, I was able to get more details about the 79-page book and its, um, interesting premise.
The Synopsis
When patriot Mike rescues feminist Ricki from a post-Trump rally riot, the clash of opposites sets off sparks between them. But the gentleman giant refuses to leave the side of the spunky half-pint until he and his pickup truck deliver her home, safe and sound. Ricki attends the rally to scoop the racism of the Trump crowd for a blog post. But she’s forced to spin a false narrative when her mistaken assumptions fail to materialize.
When Ricki’s lies get Mike doxxed, and his construction worksite becomes the target of anti-fascist thugs, his righteous anger forces her to reckon with the truth. Ricki wants to fix the damage and regain Mike’s trust. But that means facing the wrath of the liberal mobs. Will Ricki find the courage to leave the left for a lifetime of old-fashioned true love?
He was a sweet-bean conservative. She was a raging feminist. Can I make it any more obvious?
According to Baio, “Our black-lipstick-wearing main character decides to attend a Trump rally out of spite in order to write a hit piece for her blog.” However, Ricki discovers that the rally is full of wholesome, goodhearted folks who don’t wear black lipstick or have vivid colored hair to symbolize their rage—which, according to the book, is what the lipstick, hair, and nail polish represent. Ah yes, I too cycle through different hair colors and paint my nails as a sign of liberal anger and aggravation instead of, you know, liking to have purple or green or red curls every now and then. Why, depending on the day, I might paint my nails in multiple colors. Approach with caution.
At one point, an elderly Veteran is helped to his seat, and Ricki reflects on how she and her “Sisterhood” never celebrate them but this crowd always honors and respects those who have served our country. A lot of the Trump rally section is Ricki realizing that the MAGA crowd isn’t nearly as devastatingly terrible as she and her “Sisterhood” thought. The MAGA crowd doesn’t even know what an assault rifle is—and yes, Ricki asks, because there’s a gun membership booth at the rally.
I should point out that Ricki is trying to get into her college’s feminist club, which is, of course, extremely hostile, cynical, and would probably leave a soaking wet puppy out in the rain. Baio writes, “Not only does Ricki have to prove she hates men and conservatives in order to get in but halfway through the book, a young woman is publicly shamed and banished from the club for having a father who works for the police department.”
Baio also highlights two absolute gems in the story, which you can read below.
“Uncertain of where to go, and a bit disappointed that she hadn’t spotted any overt racism, she was shocked when she turned a corner and nearly collided with a group of college-aged youth, several of them persons of color. Just as shocking were the whites in the midst. At least two of the group wore red MAGA hats. They all carried rally signs. It shattered her expectations. She’d ignored the sprinkle of Hispanics, Asians, and Blacks in the crowd.”
Then? Ricki reflects on how Trump refers to God in such wonderful ways, whereas folks on “her side” only use God’s name in vain.
“Ricki decided to count the number of times the president used the name God in his speech. Even with the warm-up speakers – politicians, campaign personnel, and other public figures- God was freely invoked… Ricki could not recall anyone on her side using God as Supreme Being, guiding force, or higher power, although she had heard the name taken in vain.”
As to be expected, Mike is depicted as an absolute sweetheart, though Ricki tries to resist at first because RAWR she’s a feminist and men are evil, BOO HISS. He is a complete gentleman who is referred to as “the hulk” because he is chiseled and large, especially compared to how tiny she is. “For such a small body she had a strong build. She had straight shoulders with a tiny waist cinched in with a narrow belt, her shirt tucked into a snug pair of jeans. Her breasts were firm and well-shaped.” At one point he apparently says that she looks like an orphan? And he finds that cute?
Are the MAGA straights okay?
It’s not just the opposing political views that threaten to keep these two apart. Ricki has perfected the fine art of rejecting men because, “As a feminist about to graduate with a master’s degree in gender studies, dating was a mark of shame.” But Mike is just too dang irresistible, especially when he saves her from an angry mob. “The crux of the story occurs after the Trump rally when Ricki formally meets the new love of her life – Mike, who saves Ricki after she is jumped by a group of ‘anti-fascists’ which Mike says are people paid to look like Trump supporters to beat Ricki up.”

I’m not sure what happens when the story gets to the part about Mike being doxxed because Ricki lied, but I do know that the reviews are fantastic.
While the book does have “1” in the title, alluding to this being a series, there aren’t any other books from Liberty Adams on Amazon save for this one and one called Justice For Mary Beth which was released in 2021. That being said, there IS a second book in the MAGA Hat Romance series called Almost a Family on Adams’ website. The story is about a woman named Allie trying to “accept a new daddy for her daughter” and whether or not she will “let herself love again.”
That’s the only description on the page, so use your imagination about what the plot is. My guess is that the new dad is a super attractive, sweet as apple pie conservative, and Allie’s got hangups about him because she’s an (insert color) haired feminist. Maybe to spice things up we’ll find out that Allie’s former husband/father of her child was the SUPER RAGING LIBERAL and Allie has to separate herself from his RAGING idealogy. RAGE!
Part of me wonders if this is all an elaborate parody. Maybe this was written for us to roast on the Internet. Or maybe this actually is a Trump supporter trying to have both sides come together via an appreciation of “hulky” men and … I dunno, green hair? Either way, I’ve informed you of its existence, my work here is done.
