Ever since the original classic film starring Janet Gaynor and Frederick March in 1937, it seems that every generation needs to put up one of its biggest female music stars to play the role of Esther Victoria Blodgett in a version of A Star is Born. It’s understandable. The story of a big-time male celebrity falling in love with a not-famous woman who does what he does only to be overshadowed by her when his addictions get the better of him is compelling.
In this go-round, Bradley Cooper (who is also making his directorial debut) stars as a famous country singer, and Lady Gaga (in her first leading film role) stars as a woman with a big voice and songwriting chops, but lots of insecurities. This trailer is pretty damn stunning, and as skeptical as we have every right to be about film remakes, this one actually looks really good! (via The Hollywood Reporter on Twitter)
