Arrow Is Getting a New Showrunner as Wendy Mericle Exits

Recommended Videos

The CW superhero responsible for the state of the Arrowverse as we know it is getting a new showrunner, according to Deadline.

The current Arrow executive producer/co-showrunner, Wendy Mericle, will be departing at the end of the current season. Her replacement will be Beth Schwartz, who was promoted to executive producer and sole showrunner for the upcoming seventh season.

Marc Guggenheim, who co-created Arrow, is taking a back seat on both Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. He is apparently transitioning to an executive consultant role on both shows. Current Legends co-showrunner Phil Klemmer will become the sole showrunner in the upcoming fourth season.

“We are all so incredibly thrilled to announce Beth Schwartz as the new showrunner of Arrow,” Greg Berlanti said. “She has been a source of some of the show’s most exciting and memorable moments from the beginning. Beth is a true leader and a captivating storyteller, and we all can’t wait for the audience to see what she and her team dream up as they take Arrow into its next big chapter.”

Arrow has had to deal some changing of the guard after producer Andrew Kreisberg was fired due to sexual harassment allegations.

Mericle has been with the show since after the pilot and a co-showrunner since Season 4.

If I watched Arrow I would say I’m excited to see what Schwartz will do, but seeing as how E-1 Laurel is still dead for no good reason, I guess you will all just have to fill me in. Hopefully having a woman in the main role will mean that the female characters that remain will get storylines worthy of the actresses and viewers time.
