Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira are teaming up to work on an adaptation of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s bestseller Americanah for television. This is so much goodness in one sentence our brains are exploding. But wait, it gets even better.
According to the AV Club:
Nyong’o has had the rights to Adichie’s novel, about a pair of star-crossed lovers torn apart when they immigrate to the West from Nigeria, for a while now; she was originally planning to turn it into a film, with fellow Panther alum Daniel Oleyowo supposedly set to star.
Per reports, Nyong’o will play the female lead role of Ifemelu, with Gurira—who is also a celebrated playwright—attached to write. Nyong’o and Gurira have collaborated before; Nyong’o was nominated for a Tony for Gurira’s play Eclipsed, and we think they should collaborate always.
The only problem with this Americanah set-up is that we’re going to have to wait for it to be made instead of being able to watch it right now.
