Debra Messing Stands With Catt Sadler, Calling Out E! While Being Interviewed on E!

Recommended Videos

Last month Catt Sadler, the longtime co-host of E! News, parted ways with the network upon discovering that her male co-host, Jason Kennedy, who started around the same time Sadler did, was making close to double her salary. After repeated attempts to get what she deserves (and not succeeding), Sadler left, reminding all of us to “Know your worth.”

At the Golden Globes this weekend, Debra Messing wore black in support of the Time’s Up initiative. While discussing her solidarity during an interview with E!, she also brought up the issue of the gender wage gap, calling out E! for their dealings with Sadler. She said:

“I was so shocked to hear that E! doesn’t believe in paying their female cohosts the same as their male cohosts. I mean, I miss Catt Sadler and so we stand with her. That’s something that can change tomorrow. We want people to start having this conversation that women are just as valuable as men.”

She wasn’t the only one to take the wage gap discussion directly to E! either. Nicole Kidman, Eva Longoria, and Reese Witherspoon all expressed support for Sadler while being interviewed on E!, and Longoria said, “We are also here for Time’s Up. We support gender equity, equal pay, and we hope that E! follows that lead with Catt as well.”

Meanwhile, Sadler herself seemed grateful for the support, saying in a statement to Buzzfeed about Messing’s statement, “I am immensely grateful for the outpouring of support today. Time’s Up.”

Here’s hoping that E! recognizes that just because they cover the Time’s Up initiative doesn’t mean they’re exempt from the work the initiative demands.
