Watch Ballerina Juliet Doherty’s Gorgeous Take on Steven Universe’s “It’s Over, Isn’t It?”

Looking for new ways to let Steven Universe tear your heart out? Dancer Juliet Doherty was transformed into “Ballerina Pearl” for a take on “It’s Over, Isn’t It?”, Pearl’s beautiful song about love and loss from the episode “Mr. Greg.”

A lot of work had gone into the song, from the many stages of the composition to the storyboard for the actual scene that gives Pearl both emotional close-ups and dynamic movements. When you watch it, it’s hard to imagine anyone mimicking or capturing the same kind of energy in real life. Her moves starting at around 1:20 are especially great:

Doherty doesn’t go for an imitation and her dance is fantastic. The camera work seems to be trying to go for the same kind of combination of dance and close-up and while I would’ve preferred a lighter hand on the camera editing, it’s a wonderful tribute to one of Steven Universe‘s most touching songs.

The video come as the Steven Universe vinyl set is coming out for the new year, which fans can now pre-order. What did you think of Ballerina Pearl?
