Things We Saw Today: Meet Moira, the Devilish New Scientist Coming Soon to Overwatch

As part of BlizzardCon 2017, Blizzard Entertainment released an origin story video for Moira O’Deorain, the new support hero coming to Overwatch. There’s no specific date for her release yet, but it should be some time in the near future. “We are bedeviled by the mysteries of creation,” she says in her intro video. “Science can reveal the truths that lie behind these many questions. What we learn can unlock the true potential of humanity.”

Her follow-up origin story video, however, is a bit more sinister than all that. “I take risks that others would consider to be unwise, for I do not share their caution,” she says in the video above. “Overwatch held back the pace of scientific discover for decades. They believed my methods were too radical, too controversial, and they tried to silence me.”

Her in-game skills include “biotic abilities [that] enable her to contribute healing or damage in any crisis. While Biotic Grasp gives Moira short-range options, her Biotic Orbs contribute longer-range, hands-off damage and healing; she can also Fade to escape groups or remain close to allies in need of support. Once she’s charged Coalescence, Moira can save multiple allies from elimination at once or finish off weakened enemies.” (Via Polygon)

  • After making some victim-blaming comments, Alec Baldwin is taking a break from Twitter. Baldwin came under fire for asking, “When women take money and are silenced by that money…does it set back the cause of change?” Needless to say, people were pissed at the implication that women who take what small form of justice they can get are the real source of the problem. Baldwin has since stated that “it was never my intention, in my public statements, to ‘blame the victim’ in the many sexual assault cases that have emerged recently. I simply posited that the settlement of such cases certainly delayed justice … My heart goes out to all such victims. My goal is to do better in all things related to gender equality.” (via Deadline)
