A Tale of Two Davids: Ayer in Talks for Scarface Reboot and Lynch on New Twin Peaks Episodes

Are you prepared for more reboots? No? Deal with it anyway. In the continual rehashing of things you loved back in the day, Scarface is next on the list but early details make it sound promising.

According to Deadline, Diego Luna is set to star in the role made famous by Al Pacino. However, this will be more of a reimagining, with the story taking place in Los Angelos rather than Miami. The Coen brothers are working on a script and David Ayer, who also directed Suicide Squad, is set to helm the film. Training Day’s Antoine Fuqua was supposedly set to direct but had to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. This makes me sad because I think he could have done something great, but that doesn’t mean Ayer won’t also do something interesting. With it being so early in the process, it’s best to just wait and see how it all plays out. Though having Luna at the center of it piques my interest.

Speaking of interesting reboots, Twin Peaks is also set to make a comeback with most of the original team. David Lynch, the man behind the quirky show about a beauty queen murdered in a small town, spoke about why he returned to the project all these years later. “Well, you know, the story was not over. I love the world—and I love the people in the world,” he told Deadline.

Despite its format, Lynch shot the show more like a movie. “The pilot was not that short; it was a feature film, it just had an open ending,” he said of the original series. That also applies to the upcoming reboot. “And the same thing goes with this—it’s a film. It’s broken into parts.”

Twin Peaks makes its triumphant return May 21 on Showtime. Will you watch?
