Muslim poet/rapper/activist Mona Haydar has zero time for the kind of feminism that prescribes that the only true feminist liberation is that which requires women to be willing to show skin, otherwise you’re “oppressed” or “repressed” or any other word with “essed” at the end (posessed? obsessed?). With her first single, “Hijabi” (which she promises is from a debut EP we can expect soon!), Haydar introduces us to a variety of women in hijab doing things that women in hijab do. Like, you know, dance and enjoy hip-hop, and also respecting their religion by observing it in the way they choose. (via Pajiba)
