Can We Talk About MTV Movie & TV Awards and Their Inclusive Best Actor Category?

Remember when MTV switched up their annual Movie Awards and added TV into the mix? Well, the nominations for that bigger and better awards ceremony have been announced and, big shocker here, Get Out leads with six. The Jordan Peele horror thriller is up for categories like Movie of the Year, Best Actor, Best Villain and Best Duo.

But what’s interesting most here is that they’ve done away with gender divisions and instead, opted for a unified “actor” category. Whether it’s an act of progression or just a clever way to cut down on time is unclear. I just know that I’m absolutely here for it and would love to see other shows put their actors on equal footing like this. I mean, you never see people dividing other categories like Best Producer or Best Director by gender. Perhaps this is the next step?
