There’s Shades of The X-Files in This Creepy Supergirl Promo

An alien parasite? Where are Mulder and Scully?

Recommended Videos

For the most part, Supergirl is a show that tends to embrace the lighter side of the superhero genre–optimistic, uplifting stories are kind of its forte, and it hasn’t really strayed from that much since it wrapped up its first season on CBS and made the leap in a single bound to the CW. However, the sneak peek from Monday’s episode, “Changing”, may be a sign of darker things to come from the typically (and visually) brighter show.

Case in point: the teaser above is giving me major X-Files vibes, and you’ll see why as soon as you watch it for yourself. Alex and Hank (along with some of their fellow DEO agents) are investigating what appears to be a completely wrecked science lab, and there’s plenty of ominously flickering lights and damaged screens to give it that extra creepy feeling. For a second I half-expected agents Mulder and Scully to show up and start working in cooperation with the DEO. It didn’t happen, but wouldn’t that be a sick crossover?

Few things are scarier than an escaped alien parasite, and that’s exactly what Supergirl and Co. are going to be facing when “Changing” airs on Monday night. The official episode summary also offers more info on what tomorrow’s episode will give us:

The Guardian debuts to lend a hand after a parasite alien drains Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) of her power. Mon-El (Chris Wood) considers a less than desirable new career which then leads him to contemplate his motives. Alex (Chyler Leigh) struggles with a new reality.

Between this and the four-show crossover promo the network was kind enough to give us last week, Supergirl is by and large one of my saving graces at the moment. Are you excited for Monday’s creepier episode?
