Underworld: Blood Wars Releases a Full Trailer (and Some More Plot Hints)

Hooray for action movies with kickass ladies!

The Underworld franchise is, regrettably, one of those that I’ve managed to watch bits and pieces of over the years, but never fully completed in one sitting–and for the life of me I don’t know why, because in the words of Stefon it has everything (I like): supernatural creatures like vampires and werewolves, a complex storyline with a ton of worldbuilding, and a kickass female character who’s basically the most powerful being in-universe.

It’s almost hard to believe that Kate Beckinsale has been holding down the Underworld movies ever since the first one came out in 2003–that’s 13 years ago–and to be honest, she really doesn’t show any signs of stopping here as Selene. The newest film in the series, Underworld: Blood Wars, was initially pushed back to a early 2017 release–but based on this trailer, it looks like all good things are coming to those who wait.

There are so many great things about this trailer, y’all, not the least of which is Outlander‘s Tobias Menzies practically shredding the scenery as Lycan leader Marius, Divergent‘s Theo James as the Luke Skywalker to Selene’s Master Yoda and Sherlock‘s Lara Pulver as one of the more… antagonistic vampires in the group. The cast also includes actors like Tywin Lannister himself Charles Dance, Merlin‘s Bradley James and Daisy Head (also known as the daughter of Buffy‘s Anthony Stewart Head).

Okay, that’s it. I’m officially watching my way through these movies to gear up for Underworld: Blood Wars, which will hit theaters January 6, 2017.
