If you, like the rest of the world, have been indulging in copious amounts of nostalgia, then Nintendo’s latest entry into the nostalgia ring should give you the one-two wistful knockout you’ve been craving.
Back in July, Nintendo announced that they’re bringing back the NES Classic–well, not exactly, as it’s a smaller, HDMI-capable system that mimics the look and feel of the NES Classic. In addition to that, they just recently announced that they’re now bringing back the Nintendo Power Line for one weekend only, in celebration of the console’s launch. This means that you can snag yourself a classic system and hear about it with an actual former Nintendo Power Line worker. Over on the official Nintendo site, they describe the experience as such:
In this fully automated version, you can use your real-life phone (bonus points if it has a cord!) to dial (425) 885-7529 to hear recorded tips for several games, plus behind-the-scenes stories from original Nintendo Game Play Counselors. You never know what you might learn!
So, yeah. You just use your phone–you know, that weird handle-looking icon on your mobile–to call in and be treated to some real old school nostalgia. Youths, now you, too, can learn what life was like before GameFAQs and cheat code magazines. Marvel at the fact that people totally paid for help with their video games. Wonder at how many people sat at phone banks with a NES console and a binder full of tips just like in this old clip from The Wizard.
