Michael Fassbender Reluctantly Travels Back in Time in New Assassin’s Creed Trailer

What is this? A Spanish Inquisition?

Recommended Videos

Let’s face it, movies based off of video games tend to be terrible. There’s the cult classic Super Mario Bros. with Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo which was both incredibly dark yet campy, and also took itself much too seriously. There’s the recent World of Warcraft movie that quickly came and went. And many others too awful to be named. But, so far, it looks like Assassin’s Creed could be one of the elite few to actually get it right.

20th Century Fox has released a new trailer, and it looks more than promising. The story follows Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender), who finds out that he is descended from a secret society called the Assassins. Formidable technology unlocks his genetic memories, and soon he is able to experience the life of his ancestor Aguilar during the infamous Spanish Inquisition in the 15th century. Acquiring invaluable knowledge and a new set of skills, he’ll use that to take down the  Templar organization in the present day.

The film also stars Marion Cotillard as Dr. Sophia Rikkin, Jeremy Irons as Alan Rikkin, Michael K. Williams as Moussa and Brendan Gleeson as Joseph. Look for it in theaters on December 21, 2016. Are you excited?
