Gamescom: Creepy New Resident Evil, Metal Gear Survive, Harley and Deadshot in Injustice 2, and More

Europe’s Gamescom video game show is now underway in Cologne, Germany, and despite the absence of the major players in our ongoing console wars, the event has already brought plenty of news, announcements, and trailers for the games we’ll be playing in the near future. Let’s take a look at a few of the biggest reveals so far.

First up, there’s Resident Evil 7 biohazard, which has taken the series into a first-person perspective and back to its roots a bit after the last few games and their detour into more action-oriented gameplay. RE7 seems to be more of a slow, creepy survival game, and it tasks you with escaping a large old plantation mansion in Louisiana—complete with at least one ghastly inhabitant. The game will land on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR (probably explaining the first-person view) on January 24, 2017.

Speaking of Resident Evil, the Metal Gear Solid series is shambling onto the zombie bandwagon with Metal Gear Survive. (You can watch the trailer here.) Survive is an alternate universe take on the series, wherein characters are literally transported to an alternate universe within the story and must fight zombies and try to get back home—yes, really. It’s billed as a co-op survival game with four-player online capabilities. So, it’s Left 4 Dead: Metal Gear, because it’s 2016, and everything has to have zombies in it.

In more normal followups, we’ve also got new footage demonstrating what Gears of War 4 looks like in 4K ultra HD, and Titanfall 2 got a multiplayer gameplay reveal. And, to top it all off, here’s Harley Quinn (and Deadshot) joining the cast of Injustice 2:
