Disney shared a first look at Pixar’s upcoming animated short Piperwhich follows a sandpiper hatchling who has to learn how to dig for food. The six-minute short was directed by Alan Barillaro, and will debut before Finding Dory. Barillaro was the supervising animator for films like Wall•E and Brave so it’s not surprising that the animation looks incredible. I’m definitely wowed by how detailed the bird fluff is and how much work probably went into creating the look of the shore and its reflection.

Naturally, watching the new short and gushing about it as much as the movie is an essential part of any Pixar movie-viewing experience, and from the adorableness of the first look I’m already in love with that little bird. Just listen to its little chirps and see how it bounces around! Eventually, there’s going to be a Piper plush toy in stores, and I can’t wait to own one. Barillaro has said that the short is about seeing someone smaller than you (there’s going to be a hermit crab character not seen here), “brush themselves off and tackle something, and learn from that in your own way,” so I’m also excited to see how emotionally wrecked Pixar can make me in 6 minutes. Considering the first few minutes of Finding Nemo make me cry every time, I imagine they’re just going to try and unleash all the emotions before the film even starts.

Of course, I don’t need Piper to persuade me to watch Finding Dorywhich swims into theaters next month. This short is just another awesome Pixar endeavor to look forward to (in addition to the new Finding Dory characters that include Hank the Octopus, Bailey the Beluga, a maybe same-gender couple, Idris Elba and Dominic West as sea lions, and more). Are you looking forward to Piper?
