Once Upon a Time Seals a Same-Sex Relationship With True Love’s Kiss

Recommended Videos

After a misery spree for LGBTQIA characters throughout some of our beloved geeky TV shows, it seems like one show is not only trying to do things right, but they’re giving us a legit, romantic same-sex fairytale!

In this week’s episode of Once Upon a Time, “Ruby Slippers,” we’re introduced to Dorothy (played by Teri Reeves), as Mulan (Jamie Chung) travels with Ruby (Meghan Ory) through Oz to help her find her wolf pack. Zelena is at it again, and she steals Dorothy’s dog, Toto, in true Wicked Witch fashion. So, Mulan and Ruby help her get Toto back.

Viewers of OUaT know that Mulan had revealed feelings for her Princess Aurora back in Season Three, but they were unrequited. Thankfully, that ship wasn’t the only one with the possibility of sailing on this show. During their journey, Ruby and Dorothy end up seriously bonding, and at one point, Ruby asks Mulan’s advice on how she should handle her feelings. Mulan advises her to not make the same mistake she did by waiting too long and keeping her feelings hidden.

After some danger and adventure, Ruby gets to awaken Dorothy with True Love’s kiss! Then they kiss again, while both are totally awake. According to The Hollywood Reporter, co-creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis said in a statement, “True love’s kiss has been a staple of this show since the beginning. This past Sunday’s episode was just another example of how in a fairy tale, as in life, love is love.”

Here’s hoping that this burgeoning fairy tale couple gets to live happily ever after!
