[VIDEO] The House of El: “Livewire” and Mommy Issues

Recommended Videos

Welcome to The House of El, a new video series where I’ll go beyond the Supergirl recap, delve a little into the DC Comics source material and other incarnations of the character, and hone in on a topic from that week’s episode of CBS’ Supergirl that I find interesting, annoying, or that really sticks in my craw. Wherever my “craw” is.

This week, Episode Four of Supergirl‘s first season, “Livewire,” got me thinking about women and their Mommy Issues. We often hear about women having “Daddy Issues,” but a woman’s relationship with her mother is hugely complex, and not always entirely positive.

What do you think of how the Danvers women dealt with each other on Supergirl this week (and yay, Helen Slater!)? Did their mother/daughter relationships seem true-to-life for you? And what about Cat Grant? Actress Joan Juliet Buck has been cast to play Cat Grant’s mother in a future episode. What “issues” do you think they’ll be dealing with?

Discuss in the comments below! I hope you enjoyed this week’s video (subscribe to The Mary Sue on YouTube!), and I will see you next week!
