Owner of the Goonies House Is So Over Your Childhood Memories

THIS IS WHY WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS.

Recommended Videos

Many of you reading this are probably fans of the classic 1980s film, The Goonies. Some of you may have even taken the trip to Astoria, OR, where the house that’s in the film is located. Well, guess what? That house actually has an owner who lives in it – and she’s so over your freaking nostalgia.

She wasn’t always. Sandi Preston, who’s lived in the house since 2001 and also loves The Goonies, was really accommodating for the first few years. However, that was when Goonies tourism was slow. Then the anniversaries started piling up, as did the social media platforms. Suddenly, she was getting 1,200-1,500 people a day on her lawn taking selfies and marking her house down on their various tours of pop culture locations. Dammit, Digital Age! THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS.

Well, she’s done. She’s gone to great lengths to cover much of her property in blue tarps to decrease the photo op value. The city has stepped in, putting up signs discouraging access to the house.

*sigh*

Hey fellow fans, let’s ease up on the Goonies house, OK? Let’s show people that, despite our intense, fannish fervor, we can still be considerate humans who respect other people’s homes. Make me proud!
