Disney’s Maleficent Sequel Officially in the Works

But will Jolie reprise the role?

Recommended Videos

Did you love Disney’s new take on Maleficent last year? Well, get ready for more! It looks like Disney is moving forward with a sequel to the blockbuster fairy tale re-telling, and has already hired a writer (and yes, it’s a woman)!

Linda Woolverton, who wrote the Maleficent script, is back on board to write the next chapter. Now of course, the expectation is for Angelina Jolie to reprise the titular role, but while she’s being kept informed about the script, and it’s being written with the intention of her coming back to do it, no official deal has been made yet, and she’s not the kind of actress who’ll automatically jump back on for a sequel just ’cause. Her coming back would involve a new deal (and likely more money!) and an approved script. But as Woolverton is writing the sequel, one would hope that she can deliver something that appeals to Jolie much like the first one did. Here’s hoping!

If there had to be another actress in the role of Maleficent, is there anyone else you can think of that would be able to carry a film like this? Tell us in the comments!
