Lando Calrissian Fans Rejoice! He May Be Returning To the New Star Wars Universe

Lando Calrissian is coming back! Now, don’t start getting excited – he’s not in The Force Awakens. But, producer Lawrence Kasdan says that there’s definitely a chance that we’ll be seeing Lando again!

As reported by Empire Magazine, Kasdan talked about the possibilities in a recent interview:

Kasdan addressed the speculation about Lando. “Right now, there’s no Lando Calrissian in this movie.” Yet he still offered hope to Lando fans everywhere. “But Lando I don’t think is finished in any way, shape, or form.”

Kasdan discussed the fact that he and J.J. Abrams wanted to keep these films streamlined, unlike so many other blockbusters today that want to cram in as many characters and references as possible:

“We didn’t want to make a movie like that. I mean, we were really aiming to have it be—when it’s over you’ll say, ‘I wish there’s more.’ Or, ‘Wait, is it over?’ But it means that there will be constant critical looking at it from now to the end, saying, ‘Do we need this? Do we need that? Is it better if this comes out, even though we love it?’ Killing your darlings.”

I totally respect that. For example, as much as I enjoyed Avengers: Age of Ultron, I was kind of like Okay, everyone doesn’t need to be in this. As more and more properties create complex cinematic universes, it seems like we’re losing sight of how to tell tight, self-contained stories well. Having seen what Kasdan has to say about the approach he and Abrams are taking in these new Star Wars films, I have high hopes that they will be truer to the spirit of the original, scrappier films.

What do you think? Do you want to see Lando? How do you think he should be involved? Tell us below!
