Rose Byrne (X-Men: First Class, Bridesmaids28 Weeks Later) recently announced that she has joined up with four other women working in film to create an all-female production company, named “The Dollhouse Collective.” It’s a veritable Voltron of Hollywood power.

Gracie Otto, actress and director of The Last Impresario, is also along for the ride. According to an interview with ScreenDaily, Otto explained that the company aims to “develop theatre, film and television together and tell stories with a strong female presence.” She went on to explain that this is something they’ve already been doing for a while now, and said, “This formalizes what we are already doing. Sitting around the dinner table we have always been sounding boards for each other.”

Byrne and Otto aren’t the only women behind the company’s creation. They’re joined by publicist and producer Jessica Carrera, short film director Shannon Murphy, and actress Krew Boylan.

There’s definitely a growing number of women who are just straight up done trying to deal with the ridiculous problems Hollywood has in working with women. Just earlier this week, Byrne was in an interview and called Hollywood out on its double-standards around women and comedy. She said, “It’ll be exciting when people are not asking why women are funny.”

Meryl Streep also recently funded a writing workshop for women over 40, a workshop that has “evolved in recognition of the absence of the female voice in narrative film.”

Sometimes, you do the best with what you’re given. Other times, you say screw it and go out to make change happen.

These ladies seem to be doing just that.
