Russo Brothers Will Reportedly Direct Avengers: Infinity War I & II

Russo Bros.: Affinity War -Wherein we argue over how great this is.

With Joss Whedon hanging up his Marvel director… Hat? Spurs? Repulsor gloves? What does one even hang up to stop directing Marvel movies? Well, whatever he hangs up, it looks like the Russo brothers will be stepping in to fill his shoes and further confuse my clothing metaphors.

Badass Digest says,

Now I can tell you it’s come to pass: Joe and Anthony Russo will follow up Captain America: Civil War by graduating to Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and 2. The movies should shoot back-to-back in 2016 and 2017.

If you’re not instantly excited by this news, you may not have noticed that these are the same Russo brothers behind Captain America: The Winter Soldier. If that movie wasn’t great and an absolutely perfect training ground to make an Avengers movie, I don’t know what is—not to mention their work directing beloved comedies like Arrested Development and Community, which should help keep the Avengers personality intact.

They’ll also have Civil War under their belts before they get started on Infinity War, so the next phase of the Marvel cinematic universe looks to be in good hands. There are reportedly no writers attached to Infinity War yet, though Marvel may be in talks with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, who worked on the Captain America movie scripts—oh, and are the creators of the Agent Carter TV show.

Badass Digest suggest official confirmation of the directors will be coming shortly, so hopefully we’ll find out more then.
