Of all the things that social media has made possible over the past few years, location sharing is probably the most invasive. Although it is awesome to be able to show people that you’re at Times Square or the local Wal-mart, it’s a feature that you don’t always want to use unless you want to anger all your online friends with location spam and let them know exactly where you are at the moment.
Who actually uses location functionality and why? Well this infographic by Visible Technologies lays out some of the numbers. You might be surprised to see how few people use it but how consistent the numbers are across age and gender. I guess some people just like being on the grid, or haven’t realized their location information is publishing.
