Arrested Development Movie “Not Going to Happen,” Says David Cross

Arrested Development diehards have been whispering about the possibility of a movie based on the show seemingly since the day in 2006 that Arrested Development, like Firefly and so many other great shows, was cruelly canceled by FOX.

The longshot possibility of an AD movie experienced a brief glimmer of hope last year when holdout Michael Cera finally agreed he’d participate. But now, we’ve got more bad tidings, courtesy of David Cross, who played everyone’s favorite analrapist Tobias Fünke on the show: In an interview with TV Squad, he repeatedly said that an Arrested Development movie is “not going to happen.”

TVSquad:

“Way too much time it’s been (since the show ended),” he told me. “I mean, there’s so many people involved. Everyone’s doing their own thing, you know. And everybody’s aged. It’s just not going to happen. I’m sure I speak for everybody when I say we’d love for it to happen, we’d love to work on it, but just I don’t think… not going to happen.” [emphasis added]

This is really disappointing news.

We’d like to note one strange microtrend at work here: Justin Long recently stated that the “I’m a Mac / I’m a PC” commercials were probably finished; Long and Cross are both involved with the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie series, with Long voicing Alvin and Cross playing the wacky neighbor. Is there a “Chipmunks curse” that afflicts the better-known projects of actors who cash in on the grating kiddie movies? Or is it just bad luck?
