Scott Pilgrim Special Edition and “Evil Edition” Books Announced With Tons of Goodies

Recommended Videos

Just in time for Comic-Con is news that in addition to the full-color version of the Scott Pilgrim books, a new Evil Edition will be rolling out as well. Not enough for you? Fine, how about an enormous Special Edition full of stickers, prints, patches, digital downloads, set lists, and coins? Trust me, you’ll be satisfied with your purchase.

Here’s a look at what you’ll get with the collector’s edition of the books.

If that’s too overwhelming for you, here’s the text version of the above image:

In addition to the EVIL EDITION version of the book, the COLLECTOR’S EDITION also includes:

* A numbered book plate signed by Bryan Lee O’Malley

* Five art prints featuring both versions of the cover, along with three of volume 1’s biggest moments—each measuring 9×12

* Eleven vinyl stickers featuring some of O’Malley’s favorite panels from the book

* Two scout-style embroidered badges featuring Pilgrim and Patel (not pictured)

* A hand-crumpled setlist from Crash & the Boys drummer Trasha

* A two-inch metal Scott Pilgrim 1-up coin

* A code for the digital edition of SCOTT PILGRIM VOLUME 1 COLOR EDITION from ComiXology

And all of this will be available to you for the heart-stopping price of $100. Actually, considering all the cool stuff you’re getting, that’s a pretty reasonable price. The Evil Edition books will be sold separately for the slightly more reasonable price of $40. Following the order of the Evil Ex’s introduction in the story, the first Evil Edition book will feature Matthew Patel.

Both versions of the book will debut at Comic-Con, and will be available on the Oni Press website on August 8th.

For those concerned about storing all the editions that the series now exists in, Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley tweeted:

btw there will be a full set of Scott Pilgrim EVIL EDITIONS eventually, but they match the regular editions so they’ll look good on ur shelf

I’d like to make some snide, cynical comment about cashing in big time but this just looks too good. Well played, Oni Press.

To me, the most interesting piece of this set is the digital download code. As digital comics become more of a rising force, and eBooks in general becoming a major part of modern publishing, it’s an interesting move by Oni Press. It’s a nice way to introduce people to a format in which they might not have otherwise been interested — perhaps paving the way for future digital purchases — and I whole heartedly approve of being given as much access to the thing I bought as possible

On the other hand, like the inclusion of CDs and digital download codes with modern vinyl LP releases, it almost feels like a tacit admission of print’s antiquated existence.

In addition to all this Scott Pilgrim madness, O’Malley will also be selling a print from his forthcoming book Seconds at Comic-Con. Will this be the first move of another  cultural touch-stone mega-hit? Probably not, but it will certainly be an earnest effort by a strong force in the comics world. I’m looking forward to it.
