Some iconic legends in the world of horror come from a longline of horror icons themselves. You have Jamie Lee Curtis, whose mother was famously Janet Leigh of Psycho. And now we have Sosie Bacon!

The daughter of Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick made a name for herself in the 2022 film Smile and when fans realized that her father was one of the stars of the original Friday the 13th, she was cemented in that legacy. Part of the joy of the premiere of the first Smile film took place at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas and so to celebrate 20 years of Fantastic Fest women, we’re giving Sosie Bacon a shout out!

Bacon attended Fantastic Fest along with director Parker Finn to share the horror film with audiences. Since the film’s release, Smile has become a franchise of its own with Smile 2 bringing Naomi Scott as a pop star into the fold. But the series started with Sosie Bacon’s Rose Cotter.

The plot to the film is as follows: “After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can’t explain. As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.”

Bacon has been in other genre films throughout her career, like the Mary Harron film Charlie Says about Charles Manson. But her work in Smile captivated audiences and it is amazing that Bacon and the team behind the original horror film took to Fantastic Fest with their work! And it’s one of our favorite moments of the last 20 years!

You can see our full list of women we’re celebrating for Fantastic Fest’s 20th anniversary here and get ready to celebrate fantastic genre films later this month!
