…I think I like that GLAAD test better than the Bechdel one, since it specifically measures the importance of the character to the plot rather than merely talking.

True, though there could be a fourth pip behind the fold.

Y’know, all things considered, the head really isn’t the best place to put a combat robot’s brain, if you can avoid it.

Guys With Fancy Lady Hair is an absolutely brilliant idea. Especially the part about the endless styling possibilities facial hair adds (as lady dwarfs in Hobbit prove). I could get behind this becoming a new fashion. ;)

I’ve gone back and forth on this. On the one hand, the head is vulnerable and easily targeted; on the other hand, you probably want at least the visual sensors as high up as possible for maximum range, and you want to minimize the distance between the input and the “brain.”

I was thinking that while watching Elysium. Damon pulls off a robot’s head and it dies, and I was just thinking “why isn’t its brain in the chest or something? Also, why didn’t his fingers come off first, since they’re unaugmented?”

  • Nick Gaston

Unless the robot’s body is large enough that relativistic effects start factoring in, I can’t imagine that that’d be any major concern.

…on the other hand, I would *definitely* like to see a killbot large enough to be measured in light-minutes, so there’s that.

On the other other hand, the head is smaller and thus less easily hit except by an expert marksperson. The chest or centre of mass is what most people are trained to aim for as it is the largest area and thus most likely to hit something.

Uhh, I dunno about putting babies in Red Shirts, but cosplay onesies are a truly adorbs idea.
