Minkyu Lee has worked on Wreck-It Ralph, Winnie the Pooh, and The Princess and the Frog, as well as directing the Oscar nominated short film Adam and Dog. He's gotten asked about portfolios so often that he decided to share his own portfolio, which he used to gain entry to the Visual Development department at Disney. It's structured as a comprehensive series of character design work for a single hypothetical project: an animated adaptation of Wicked.
If there's one thing we here at Geekosystem are happy to promote, it's animated short films. Paperman is just wonderful, for example. The Oscars for the Best Animated Short Film category are looking tough to call at the moment thanks to how stellar all the nominees are. Adam and Dog by Minkyu Lee is a wonderful little short that's cropped up on the Internet now that it's been nominated, and you can watch the whole thing right here.
Warning: May Contain Feelings
Minkyu Lee's Adam and Dog is nominated for an Oscar for Best Animated Short, and after watching it you'll know why. It's inventive, gorgeously animated, and heart-breaking and heart-mending both at the same time. (I get emotional when there are dogs in movies… don't look at me. It's just raining on my face.) Fair warning, there is some nudity (non-sexual in nature) because it's Adam and Eve sans the oft-pictured fig leaf. It's not a big deal at all, but I'm just covering my butt like Adam's butt and genitals are not covered in this movie. So there ya go. Watch it. It's excellent.
