There Goes Our Money: Japan’s Premium Bandai Introduces New Line of Sailor Moon Lingerie & Dresses

Cut to my wallet shouting "LOVELYYYYYYY" and then dying.

Today I put it to my coworkers that eventually we might get very close to hitting peak Sailor Moon. We all laughed it off until sweatdrops appeared on our foreheads and we forgot what we were talking about. You know what we should have been talking about? The amazing merch coming out of Japan right now. Holy dang, guys, it’s the school uniform I always wanted to wear but didn’t have to because I went to public school!

Yesterday Premium Bandai announced a new line of loungewear made to look like the outfits our girls wear on a day to day basis, as well a new collaboration with Japanese lingerie manufacturer Peach John. The previous line of underwear from this winter featured only the inner senshi sets, but now they’re offering all ten of the senshi in faithful detail, complete with skirts this time—and look, they even left out the stripes on the outer’s collars! Aw! It almost makes me feel less weird that they’re now offering pink underwear made up to look like the outfit the ten year old wears.

Speaking of that one senshi who’s only ten years old, the line doesn’t just stop at school uniforms: they’ve also made a Black Lady dress (or Wicked Lady, if you were a ’90s dub kid) and a Princess Serenity dress. All of them are one size only and the longer dresses come with built in bra pads, because apparently they’re meant for loungewear and not for running around in public demanding that everyone henceforward refer to you as the moon princess.

Unfortunately if you live outside Japan (which is probably most of us), it’s going to be a lot harder to land one of these products; you pretty much need a deputy service or a friend in the country who can buy them for you. They’re also stupidly expensive for what they are: the shorter dresses are 5,378 yen or about $50 USD; the lingerie is 7,538 yen o4 about $70; and the longer dresses start at $90. Jeez. At least they’re real pretty to look at?
