Gotye/Star Wars Parody Casts Darth Vader and George Lucas as Estranged Lovers

Good job internet: you finally found a way to get me to listen to Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used to Know,” so that I could write this post about a parody video that recasts the post-breakup couple of the original as George Lucas and Anakin Skywalker (who also appears to be standing in for Star Wars fans).

There goes another pop song that I only know because of clever parodies of it on the internet. I’m looking at you “Call Me Maybe,” and “Sexy and I Know It.”

This wasn’t bad. The original song is actually pretty great though.

This made my week – thanks! The original song didn’t hook me until after I saw the video, so to see this parody song with the complementary video is The Best. Kinda hoped George would have more of a Darth Maul paint job, but I was amused to see a bit of beard fluff fly off him at about 2:50.

The green screen is gold. Pure gold.

So much wasted potential! I was hoping that, like the original song, Lucas’s bit would actually let him make some legitimate points that supported his point view. Instead he was just another “evil George” stereotype. Then this might have been, like the actual song, you know, an  dialogue with two sides. This could have been both hilarious and a nuanced look at the role of fans vs. creators. Instead, it was just another installment in the dearth of Star Wars fan negativity. I’m a huge SW fan, agree with a lot of stuff here re-prequel suckage, green screens and etc. But frankly, I’m tired of this stuff. Ah well, maybe I just shouldn’t expect subtlety from a YouTube parody.

why do people hate on this song? (not the parody, that was awesome, and done out of love for the song and star wars)  just the writer of this article… i love this little song, and if Glee didn’t make it as popular as it became you would too
