What's with the name?

Allow us to explain.

Holy Rusted Metal Batman!

And So It Begins: Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar Casts Its First The Dark Knight Rises Actor

But which one?

That would be Anne Hathaway. Nolan apparently really liked working with Ms. Kyle, because she’s reportedly close to signing on to co-star in Interstellar with Nolanverse newbie Matthew McConaughey.

As before, there’s not really much to say about the film: It’s hard sci-fi, about time travel and space exploration, and is based on the theories of physicist Kip Thorne. We know the name of McConaughey’s character—Cooper—but not anything else, and nothing at all about who Hathaway will play. If we actually knew things it wouldn’t be a Nolan film, now would it?

So, instead, I would like to take the time to speculate who some of Nolan’s other regulars might play. Michael Caine will be Cooper’s mentor—but I’m going to say he ends up evil this time. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Cooper’s assistant. If Hathaway’s character isn’t the wife/girlfriend of Cooper, the loss of whom sends him spiralling into a pit of insanity, then I’m going to guess Marion Cotillard for that role. Then there’s Cillian Murphy, hopefully in a role that doesn’t require him to wear a bag over his head again. I’m having a hard time placing Tom Hardy. And I’d love for Ken Watanabe to show up, but I don’t know who I want him to be other than “someone cool.” (Of course, he’s Ken Watanabe.)

And none for Leonardo DiCaprio, bye!

Tom Hardy will be the muscle – either on Cooper’s side or against.

I’d rather Hathaway’s character be her own person, than another woman in the refrigerator.

I think the article contains an element of sarcasm in that respect.

I really love Anne Hathaway. I hope she gets to do something fun.

I didn’t read it that way. Maybe you’re right.

I was just referencing the fact that Nolan uses that trope A LOT. I want Hathaway to be her own character, not just the tragic love interest, as much as you do.

Of course we want that! It would be awesome to have a movie with true co-protagonists.
