‘You literally started it’: Man Melts Down Over Pete Hegseth’s Attempt at Historical Revision

WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 04: U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's nominee to be Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth arrives for a meeting with U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) at the U.S. Capitol on December 4, 2024 in Washington, DC. A TikTok user went ballistic against Department of War Secretary Pete Hegseth over his attempt to twist history. President Trump and Hegseth announced ‘Operation Epic Fury’ and struck Iran.

“We didn’t start this war, but under President Trump, we are finishing it,” Hegseth said in a press conference on March 2nd. Two days before this, Trump had to justify his attack against Iran as a preemptive measure.

“You literally started the war,” TikTok user pearlmania500 stated.

“Pete, you changed your title to Secretary of War because you love war so much,” Pearlmania adds. “Everyone went to bed Friday night. No war. We woke up Saturday morning to war.”

He proceeds with more insults: “You started it. At 11 p.m. the president called you, and he knew you’d be awake because you’re probably doing bombs—because you love bombing things so much, like your own liver.”

Pearlmania500 continued with an impersonation of Trump, saying, “Pete, I need a distraction. Give me a war.” And then you grabbed your phone and said, “ChatGPT, I need a distraction. Give me a war.”

“You named it Operation Epic Fury because your brain is a PlayStation 2, you stupid man.” The TikTok user further expresses his annoyance, claiming that Hegseth is ‘gaslighting’ the people for making them believe that this war was not started by the Trump administration.

What’s the best-case scenario for Hegseth in this case? Pearlmania500 thinks, “The best-case scenario for you and the name Pete Hegseth is that it is slowly forgotten, the same way we forgot the names of all those World War I generals.”

Setting the record straight on who started the war

Prior to February 28, no military action by the United States took place in Iran. The United States previously intervened and forced a regime change on Iran in 1953, but a full-fledged armed conflict did not take place until 2026.

Trump gave the orders and managed to kill Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He and his cabinet started this war. Pete Hegseth can claim otherwise, but the facts disagree.
