Yet again Glen Powell has a Golden Globe nomination for playing a weird guy and I love it

It is always fun when award season starts because you get a clearer picture of what movies and television shows are going to be the ones to watch. Sometimes, one actor gets recognized twice in a row and luckily for me, that happened to Glen Powell the last two years! And for playing weird guys in disguises.

The Golden Globe nominations were announced on the morning of December 8 and Powell was nominated for his work as Chad Powers/Russ Holliday in the Hulu series Chad Powers. The nomination is a big deal because the show is one that Powell also co-created with writer and director Michael Waldron.

But the nomination also has set a sort of precedent for Powell and his Golden Globe nominations, which included a nomination the year prior for his work in the film Hit Man, which he also co-wrote with director Richard Linklater. Now, two years in a row, Glen Powell has been nominated for his acting work in projects where he wrote them himself and plays weird guys in disguises and it is perfect.

Both Gary Johnson in Hit Man and Russ Holliday in Chad Powers are men who try to hide who they are as a way of protecting themselves and I kind of love that the Golden Globes loves when Glen Powell gets weird too.

I love when Glen Powell plays weird guys

Part of what makes both Hit Man and Chad Powers so fun is that Powell clearly likes playing these characters who are willing to hide behind whatever it takes to get the job done. But both Chad Powers and Hit Man also use the comedy present within them to their advantage. And it is kind of fun that the Golden Globes has even Powell recognition for both these roles.

There are certain actors who have “leading actor” looks and it means they end up pigeon holed. While Powell is that on paper, it is fun to see how he breaks that mold with projects like these. And maybe the Golden Globes recognizing him for both Hit Man and Chad Powers will keep encouraging him to be these weird characters!

Congrats to Powell and congrats to all of us because we get Chad Powers season 2!
