‘I had to block him after 2 hours’: Austin woman goes on ice cream date with man who DM’d her on Instagram. Then his card declines 12 times

Nothing melts attraction faster than when a man’s card declines a dozen times over $21 worth of ice cream. One Austin woman ignored her better judgment because “he was hot” and agreed to a sweet little first date. Instead, she found herself front row to a financial and emotional meltdown.
Between not one but two cards getting publicly humbled at the register and an unsolicited TED Talk about his “toxic ex,” the vibes went from rocky road to absolute horror story in under two hours. Even more, she finds out more damning information that leads her to block him that very night. TikTok suggests she should’ve blocked him at the first insufficient funds notification.
What Happened on the Date?
TikToker Nicole Paige (@katkvveen) has unleashed a 10-minute-long clip that has over 140,000 viewers astounded. The story begins when the guy replies to her story on Instagram and asks if she’s single and if he could have her phone number.
Initially, Nicole is hesitant because she doesn’t just give her phone number to anyone, since “it can be risky, which it was in this case.” However, she mentions that he was “hot,” so she gave it to him. As they’re texting the next day, he says he wants to see her and asks her out on an ice cream date. Nicole agrees, and they meet at the place.
She says he’s “immediately” chatty and when the time comes to pay, his card declines. She says it was awkward because it was $21 and he tried “literally 12 times.” While this was happening, Nicole says he was getting “upset” and accusing the store of trying to “scam” him.
Nicole then tells him that she can cover it, but he refuses and instead says he will go look for a different card from his car. He’s gone for 10 minutes. “You’re obviously like on the phone with somebody or having someone send you money or whatever,” she says. When he comes back, that card also declines. He then tells her, “Can you cover it.”
‘Date from Hell’
With Nicole’s text overlay hint, one might think the financial embarrassment was the core issue. Unfortunately, it was just the start. Nicole shares that after she pays and they begin their conversation, the topic goes to past relationships. As he asks her about her exes, she mentions one of them being toxic.
“He then manages to talk about his ex and his toxic relationship for the next hour straight,” she rants. She says that it’s the “worst” she’s ever heard. “What makes you think that it’s OK, that I want to hear about that. Because I don’t,” she says.
Nicole also says that he smelled like weed and he went to the bathroom three times and came back smelling more of it. This seems to be her breaking point, and she tells him she needs to go home because she has work the next day.
As they walk to her car, he asks if he can sit with her for a bit. She agrees and then finds out he just wanted to continue talking about his ex. Finally, as they’re about to part, he tells her he wants her to visit his hometown for Christmas and meet his family and friends. “Oh my God, how oblivious can you be?” she says to the camera.
The Cherry on Top
Parting after the date doesn’t stop the weirdness. When she’s driving the 15 minutes back home, she notices a text from him on her CarPlay. She mentions that while they were talking in her car, a notification had popped up on her CarPlay from another guy.
Apparently, the guy saw it and it’s what he mentions in his text. He asks her if she is talking to other guys and will continue “after today.” Nicole says she will, because “that’s what you do when you’re single and dating.” He responds that that doesn’t “work” for him and that he’s a “one woman type guy.” Nicole chooses this moment to “let him down easy” and says it’s no problem that they have different wants. She accepts his “boundaries.” What he says next makes her speechless.
“I’m not going anywhere, Nicole,” he says. Nicole looks at the camera as if baffled. She then tells him he was the “toxic one,” not his ex.
“My nervous system is like ‘get the [expletive] away from this man,’” she says. He proceeds to tell her she’s being silly and they’ll see each other on Saturday. Nicole says she goes to do her “research” on the man and finds out some “insane accusations” about him.
She says she immediately blocks him. The next morning, he messages her on Instagram, saying, “Damn you blocked me. I guess that’s why you’re 30 and single.” She says he also sent her a message on Snapchat, but she blocked him without reading it. Nicole ends the story by saying to be careful of who you give your number to.
