Her husband cut her $400 biweekly salon visits from the budget. So she picked up the scissors and started ‘rage cutting’

Sometimes, marital budgeting meetings end with spreadsheets and sighs, not scissors and a full-blown identity crisis. One woman took “we need to cut expenses” a little too literally after her husband axed her $400 biweekly salon visits.

Her response was to grab a pair of shears and go full Edward Scissorhands on her own hair. TikTok armchair experts have a full diagnosis: child-like impulses, dysregulated emotions, and a lack of working around an issue. But the bigger question is, why does the biweekly salon trip cost $400?

Did She Really Cut All Her Hair Off?

While some viewers stay in disbelief, Kayla (@kaylahumble) showed the internet her intentions loud and clear. Even though the clip is only ten seconds long, 2.1 million viewers have watched it, and 3,000 have shared their opinions.

On the clip, the text overlay reads, “Rage cutting my hair off since my husband cut my biweekly salon visits out of the family budget knowing I dont know how to do my own hair.”

She looks at the camera, pulls a section of her shoulder-length hair taut and shears it off. After, she makes a sad face, and the clip ends. One of the comments asked for an update, and she responded, “I’m bald , he’s mad , but my beauty routine is now a necessity in our budget lol.” However, her caption states: “WATCH NEXT POST FOR HUSBAND RESPONSE.”

What Did her Husband Say?

In a follow-up video, Kayla and her husband react to the comments the original clip got. The clip already has over 4,000 views. It begins with Kayla asking her husband his thoughts on the comments that say she should “get a job,” that he needs to “leave” her, and that she’s “childish.”

His response? “I wanna say one, you don’t gotta work, baby. Sorry to the pick-mes and the haters.” His second opinion is that cutting her hair is “all on” her, but he still loves her. He mentions, “$400 every two weeks, I’m good.”

Why is Salon Care That Expensive?

Some viewers are baffled at the sheer expense of $400 for hair. However, having textured hair requires more maintenance and often, more cost. In the clip, Kayla shares not knowing how to do her own hair. This is also the case since it’s can be harder to take care of curly hair.

In a post in the r/answers subreddit, one person asked, “Why is taking care of curly and afro hair harder and more expensive than taking care of straight hair?” Body+Soul tackled the same question and came to the conclusion: “Curly hair is naturally drier, more delicate and prone to frizz – making everything from shampooing to styling a more intensive (and expensive) process.”

Another cost would be how many products it takes for curly-haired people to use. The article explains curl creams, diffusers, protein masks, etc. All in all, it can add up to quite an expense.

What did People Think?

Some viewers were quick to share their opinions. One says, “Time to generate your own income.” Another says, “& now you have to learn how to do your own short hair.” A third says sarcastically, “You definitely showed him!”

Others refuse to accept that her hair needed biweekly care. One viewer says, “Biweekly? like 8 times a month???” A second says, “Biweekly is absolutely insane btw.” Biweekly, however, refers to every two weeks, which would be closer to twice a month.

Some ask why there weren’t any options before a big chop. One viewer says, “A ponytail? A bun? You can’t do that?” While another says, “You could have just took it as a learning opportunity to learn how to do you OWN HAIR.”

However, some people do agree with Kayla. One shares, “Well, way to prove a point. Drastic, but effective. I like it.” Another says, “Did he cancel his hair cuts?! If the answer is no get your hair done sis.”

But overall, the general consensus is that Kayla overreacted. One viewer says, “Babies throw fits.” Kayla replies, “I’m his baby.”
