Some cheating scandals start with lipstick on a collar. This one started with a broken refrigerator. One Chicago woman says she was simply trying to track down a warranty after the appliance in their newly bought home gave out.

Some are calling it divine intervention because it caused her to stumble into an inbox full of receipts, dating app charges, and messages that exposed her husband of four years living a completely different life. And just when the betrayal couldn’t get messier, the plot thickened: one of the women involved was someone she actually knew. Now TikTok is saying, “That fridge breaking was a blessing in disguise.”

How Did She Find Out?

The TikTok that started it all was her sneakily videoing her (now ex) husband from behind a fence as he was with another woman. It then garnered 416,000 views with comments begging for a story time.

Luckily for them, Tabs (@tabs.tabs.tabss) delivered. Her 10-minute storytelling came just four days later, and now it has almost 82,000 views. Tabs prefaces the story by saying it’s embarrassing. The background story is that she and her husband at the time had just bought a house in Sommerville, South Carolina. He already used to travel for work, but just a year after buying their house, he got permanently moved to Washington. She said things were “really strained.”

Tabs says her husband would complain that she didn’t have enough time for him and that she should quit school. At the time, she had just gotten into nursing school, so she refused and said she wanted to complete it. She mentions that her sister was visiting for a Galentine’s Day when the fridge suddenly stopped working.

Tabs claims that the house was “no more than two and a half years old” and all the appliances were new. Therefore, she goes looking in his email to find Lowe’s warranty. Tabs makes sure to mention that at this point, they had already been together for seven years, so it was natural to have access to his emails. For the first time ever, she goes into his email, and while she’s searching, she finds receipts from different dating apps thanking him for his paid subscription.

From Hinge to Bumble to… LinkedIn?

It must be noted that these emails weren’t old receipts; Tabs says that at the time she read them, they were a few weeks old. As she continues scrolling, now that Pandora’s Box has been opened, she finds a conversation on LinkedIn with a girl they both knew from Nebraska.

“He’s basically bragging about how he and I are separated,” she says. He also calls her a terrible wife and boasts about his networking in Washington. “He also tells her about how much money he’s making and he kind of hints that he’s like, sugar daddy level now,” she shares. Again, she mentions that the girl was friends with both of them.

Tabs starts digging deeper and finds more receipts. This time, from Target, Amazon and Walmart. The purchases? One is an intimate handstrap set for a queen-sized bed… which wouldn’t fit on Tabs’ king size. She also finds children’s toys and clothes. She connects the dots and discovers that “he’s full on wooing her and her kids.” Then she finds the Venmo transactions.

Who Did He Venmo?

The story keeps unraveling. She comes upon transactions between him and her “closest friend.” Tabs questions their silence, expecting one of them to have said something since they’re all friends. She then interjects her story to say she had been telling the friend that her marriage was strained for a bit and the friend responded very supportively.

Then, Tabs devises a plan. She calls the friend and asks her if she received the money, acting like she already knew. “I had no proof of anything,” she recounts, “but something in my woman’s intuition that day made me go, hey, I know. Is there something going on between you two?”

The friend easily confesses, saying they have been flirting and talking behind Tabs’ back about how he is seeing other people. They even made plans to fly her in from Nebraska.

“They ended up not doing it because they both respected me,” Tabs says as she uses her fingers as air quotations. Apparently, the friend told her that “there was interest on both sides” and if Tabs had asked her, she would tell her because she “would never disrespect” her.

‘He Threatens to Kick Me Out of the House’

After the friend admits everything, she then goes to the husband and snitches on her. He promptly cuts off the internet and electricity, so she can’t do her schoolwork.

“He ends up flying down and threatens to kick me out of our house and to sell the house and to throw me out on my own,” Tabs reveals.

Thankfully, her sister takes her to Mexico, and she escapes him for a bit. Now, though, they have been divorced for a year, and they still live in the same town, albeit in different areas. Tabs says she usually sees posts about him on the “Are we dating the same guy?” groups on Facebook.

She says she even saw one of the comments saying that he told a woman the reason he got divorced was that he caught his wife cheating through Ring camera footage. Tabs ends the story saying it was crazy.

Viewers are Shocked

A lot comment on divine intervention. One calls it “BUTTERFLY EFFECT” while another viewer says, “Fridge was looking after you.” Another says, “That fridge breaking was a blessing in disguise!!!”

A lot call out the ‘friend.’ “‘I would never disrespect you’ I’m just flirting with your husband and considering flying out to hook up with him,” comments one viewer. Another sarcastically says, “If you ask, she will tell you. Good friend!”

One viewer shares advice, “Guuuurl, I’ve learned that a mutual friend between you & your partner is nottttt ever mutuallllll. Loyalty lies with one only.

Some even defend the husband. One viewer says, “He brought the problem to your attention that you’re too busy for him and no attention…you chose yourself and he did the same. At least he gave you a chance to fix the problem before he found someone else.”

Another says, “You had plans with someone else for valentine day and not him. He’s still wrong, but you helped contribute.”
