Marty Supreme star Timothée Chalamet made waves with his Critics Choice Awards acceptance speech. And poor Michael B Jordan looked like the most uncomfortable man alive during that moment on stage.

As Chalamet accepted his Best Actor award for Marty Supreme, he took a second to shout out the Sinner‘s star. From there, things descended into an awkwardness that a lot of the audience watching at home could identify with. It result in the most hilarious of internet questions: Is Michael B. Jordan Timothée Chalamet’s partner of three years? The answer to that is no. Were a lot of folks, who haven’t been paying attention to Chalamet and Kylie Jenner, learn something? Yes.

Chalamet made his way over to his fellow nominee. “Michael, man, unbelievable. Just rewatched Sinners. [I] hadn’t seen the after-credit scene,” he joked. “I’m happy I stuck around the second time.”It’s a good bit for an award show acceptance speech. But near the end of Chalamet being up there, things veered into slightly awkward territory again.

“They put us on an extreme angle, which is why I’m looking over there! Just being honest! Anyway, congrats Jacob…Michael, I love your work,” Chalamet reiterated. “And lastly I’ll just say, thank you to my partner of three years. I love you. I couldn’t do this without you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Appreciate it”. And that’s when the camera cut to…Jordan. Which fans have had fun with on social media.

The two shared a look, that’s for sure.

I really can’t lie, there’s something endearing about Chalamet getting up there and flubbing through this speech in front of all those people. He was clearly nervous. However, no one really knows if this is going to be indicative of how his award season is going to go past the Critics Choice Awards. Marty Supreme has proved to be an A24 darling. But, with it releasing so late in the year, the full award season picture has yet to take hold.

On social media and otherwise, a lot of people have already planted their flags in the corner of Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. With good reason, the movie is a capital B Bop. However, the most likely outcome is probably One Battle After Another cleaning up and leaving both Timmy C. and Michael B. Jordan on the outside looking in.

Despite the Critics Choice Awards best efforts, the results there don’t exactly translate to the Oscar stage just yet. (But, sly observers have noted how the CCA’s have really gained a foothold in the recent couple of years. They’ve clearly got their eye on that Golden Globes slot.) As ever, the future is uncertain. If Marty Supreme goes on to only win these honors in the lead up to the “Big Dance,” at least Timothée Chalamet delivered us a viral moment. Chances are, Michael B. Jordan will have his chance to do the same before the Oscars are done and dusted.
