A New Subject Is Here. ‘The Vampire Lestat’ Brings a New Energy in the New Trailer

It feels so good to have Interview With the Vampire* back. I use an asterisk because this season is Lestat’s time to shine (and called The Vampire Lestat). And the new look into the season will make you want to take a glorious bite out of it.
Titled “A New Interview Begins,” the trailer is huge for fans of Lestat (Sam Reid) and Daniel Malloy (Eric Bogosian). What makes this show so fascinating to me is the same thing that made Anne Rice’s novels so clever: You’re seeing the perspective of two different people. Part of the issue with the 1994 film is that we just got Louis’ (Brad Pitt) perspective. Lestat (Tom Cruise) didn’t tell Daniel (Christian Slater) his story.
The new trailer shows the television series’ Daniel and his struggle with Lestat. Is Lestat back to texting his on and off again husband, Louis de Point du Lac (Jacob Anderson)? Are his rockstar ways too much?
The series is described as follows: “In the new rock and roll centric season, the Vampire Lestat goes on an electric multi-city tour while being haunted by ‘muses’ from his wild and rebellious past. As his band’s popularity and star power rises, so does Lestat’s influence over vampires and humans alike, leaving others to contend with Lestat’s power in the face of the Great Conversion, an unnatural surge in the vampire population.”
Hear from the musicians themselves…yes, Lestat himself.

As part of the press release for the release of both the song “Long Face” as well as the new trailer, AMC shared quotes from composer Daniel Hart about “Long Face” and writing the songs for the new series. Hart shared some of his influences for The Vampire Lestat.
“Long Face is the first song I wrote for The Vampire Lestat,” Hart said. “We decided early on to make David Bowie a big influence for Lestat’s musical style and persona, and there’s certainly some Ziggy Stardust in this song. But we chose Bowie not only for his glam era, but because he was a chameleon. Expect Lestat to change his musical colors throughout the season as well, as he discovers how to remain true to himself, and how to express that truth on stage every night.”
Then, we got the quote we’ve been waiting for. Lestat himself shared some insight into the song: “Long Face is the first song Daniel Hart ‘produced’ for my album. He decided early on to steal where he could from Bowie because he hasn’t had an original idea for five years now (is that his Green Knight score fading in the rear view?) As for Long Face, the bass should have walked down with the guitar at the end instead of pedaling on E. Predictable. Like everything Daniel Hart touches.”
If you’re like me, you’re waiting with baited breath for more of Lestat. And we’ll be treated this summer to our glorious prince. For now, let’s all listen to “Long Face” on repeat until a new song comes along.
