‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ continues to hint who is actually endgame
We’re in the thick of it now with The Summer I Turned Pretty. Season 3 of the series is currently airing on Prime Video and it is making it very clear who is going to be “endgame” by the end of the series.
Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) has been torn between the Fisher brothers for her entire life. Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) and Conrad (Christopher Briney) have gone back and forth with Belly throughout the years. Conrad has seemingly loved her his entire life where Jeremiah realized she was attractive when she got older.
In season 3, Belly and Jeremiah have fought, broken up, dealt with a cheating scandal, and come back from it all to try to get married. But there is one thing looming over their big day: Everyone else finding out about Jeremiah cheating on her. While fans wait to see the reactions to the news, one thing has become very clear to me: Jeremiah doesn’t seem like endgame.
I know what the books say and I know that things can change in the show. But given what the series is setting up, I just don’t see a world where Belly and Jeremiah end up together and have a happily ever after. And seeing how Conrad has been helping Belly with her wedding, despite being heartbroken about it, it is very obvious that their love story isn’t over.
Conrad literally was leaning on Belly!
The back and forth tension between Belly and Conrad started the minute Conrad came back to Cousins and hasn’t let up. It has, in the last two episodes, heated up thanks to Conrad’s point of view and his most recent run-in with a surfboard.
In episode 5, Conrad and Belly go wedding shopping together. With Conrad as the best man and not the groom. But it is clear that he still has feelings for her and they share moments like when she eats a peach and he uses his shirt to wipe the juice off her chin. Diabolical!
Then came Belly and Conrad’s episode 6 moment. After he gashes his leg open, Belly runs up to help him and when he’s in pain, he puts his head on her shoulder. For once, Conrad’s resolve isn’t the one we’re questioning when Belly is so close to kissing him. Before she can, he breaks her out of it so they can go back downstairs.
All this to say that when you’re watching a show like The Summer I Turned Pretty, you can pick up clues to see what is going to happen next. While I don’t know for sure that Jeremiah and Belly won’t end up together, I do think that all signs are pointing towards Conrad.
