The Joy That Radiates Off the ‘Hamnet’ Cast Is Beautiful

Part of what makes Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet so special is the joy that consumes you through the grief of it. Watching the movie, I could tell that it was clearly a special movie to make. And with each new “win” for the film, we get to see just how much the cast loves each other.

From Jessie Buckley’s acceptance speech at the Critics Choice awards when she praised Paul Mescal to Zhao’s smile and infectious energy while talking about Hamnet, so much of this movie and the love I have for it comes from those who made it.

Now, the cast is showing that love with a video from the set of everyone dancing! Set to Rihanna’s “We Found Love,” the video is quite cute. The official account posted the video of the cast all dancing together. And if you weren’t in love with the cast of Hamnet before, you will be now.

But it has been clear that this team really does appreciate each other. At the Critics Choice, Buckley had nothing but praise for her director and co-stars, saying beautiful words about them. About Zhao, she said “Chloé Zhao, you have reminded me of the power of telling a story and the journey that you can go on to touch the deepest parts of what it is to be alive.”

The quote that many connected with though was her praise of Paul Mescal. “Paul, I bloody love you, man. And I know loads of other women do in this room too, but tough s—,” she said as the room laughed with her. “I could drink you like water working with you every single day. You’re a giant of the heart and thank you so much for making me a little more human.”

And luckily for us all, we can all (around the world) experience the magic of Hamnet.
