‘THE AUDACITY?!?!?!’: New Jersey woman brings husband in Sephora. Then he gets a DM from one of the workers

A New Jersey woman had an awful experience after visiting a Sephora with her husband. But it wasn’t because of the employees in the store during her visit—it was what one employee decided to message her husband afterward that shocked her.
“The audacity to message my husband is insane,” said Victoria Perciballi (@victoriaperciballi) in a video with over 71,300 views. “I’m curious how you thought that message was going to be perceived and what sort of response you thought you were going to get?”
The message in question was unsolicited advice about skincare directed at Perciballi, which she neither needed nor wanted at the time.
Perciballi’s bad experience after going to Sephora
Perciballi and her husband were trying to make a quick trip to Sephora to cross off some items from their Christmas shopping. It was Black Friday, so customers filled the store to the brim. Perciballi wanted to get in and out extremely quickly to avoid an overstimulating experience.
Perciballi went into Sephora for one item, a body mist. On a mission, she quickly asked an employee at the front where to find the mist. They directed her, and she soon found herself in front of another employee who let her know that they were unfortunately out of the body spray she was looking for.
Still trying to keep a tight timeline for her shopping, Perciballi and her husband quickly left the store. But what neither of them realized was that Perciballi’s husband actually knew the second employee.
After settling in later in the day, her husband received a message on his social media from that employee.
“She [direct messages] my husband saying, ‘tell your wife she needs to wear SPF when you go on vacation because she has bad dark spots and they’re only going to get worse,'” she recounted. “I’m really good with skincare, so I would’ve helped her. But you guys look like you were in a rush.’”
Why reach out with something negative to begin with?
Perciballi, along with many of her followers, wondered why the woman bothered to reach out with something negative to begin with.
Earlier in her video, Perciballi discussed how other women online have experienced similar situations at Sephora. They walk in looking for a very specific item, only for an employee to tell them their skincare needed improvement. To many viewers, additional quips and unnecessary help from the store’s employees have severely affected their ability to shop in-store.
Perciballi felt particularly confused about the encounter and the woman’s intentions, saying, “Did you think that my husband was going to reply to your message and be like, ‘thank you so much. You know what? We’re going to come back and get your advice right now, and you, you tell us what she should use.’ Was that [her] sales tactic? Was that [her] sales pitch?”

Some people theorized that the employee got “embarrassed” because Perciballi’s husband did not recognize her in-store.
“Oh she was 100% embarrassed your husband didn’t recognize her so she decided to try and embarrass you,” said one commenter. “That’s at least what I took from it. I would be contacting her manager with [that direct message] though. Completely inappropriate in the real world!”
Commenters urged Perciballi to make a complaint against the employee. Perciballi said she “should,” but has not said definitively whether she will reach out to the manager of that specific Sephora.
The Mary Sue has reached out to Sephora’s corporate line and Perciballi for comment.
