A Seattle woman says a routine morning run ended with an encounter that left her shaken after a man allegedly shouted explicit insults at her before throwing a “white substance” on her. The runner, Elaina Tiller, who posts as @Trainhealcreate on Instagram, shared her account in June 2026. Her video drew widespread attention online.
In her video, she says she had just finished her morning run when a man, parallel parked in his car, started “saying disgusting, vile things about me and the shorts I was wearing.” She said she initially froze after hearing the comments. While frozen, she said, “he had the opportunity to throw something at me, and I had a white substance on me,” she said. “I was shocked.”
According to her account, she confronted the man. “I said, ‘What did you throw at me?'” she recalled. “And he said it had come out of his body, and I deserved it and more profanities.” She continued, “I felt incredibly violated, especially to be so close to home and in daylight.”
Law enforcement arrived, but the man had left
Tiller called the police. But she said the driver left the area before the police arrived. However, she said a witness saw the incident and recorded video of the suspect’s vehicle as it drove away. She included that footage in her Instagram post. She also said she filed a police report and that authorities were searching for the suspect. Tiller never determined what the white substance was. She said it smelled like paint with a “chunkier” texture.
The runner explained that she has spent more than a decade running, often by herself, and described it as an important part of her daily routine. “I’ve been running a lot of times alone because that is my safe space. That’s what helps me feel like me,” she said.
Tiller offered safety suggestions
Tiller also said she’s speaking up to remind women that “society still has not created the environment” where it’s safe for women to run alone outside. She also shared several safety suggestions based on her experience. She said wearing noise-canceling headphones made it harder to hear the man.
Tiller encouraged others to consider running with a partner during early morning or evening hours, avoid using noise-canceling headphones when running alone, and report incidents to police. “If something happens to you, you should report it, because who knows what they’re gonna do to other women out there,” she said.
Many commenters on her Instagram post expressed support, thanked her for sharing her experience, and encouraged her to continue working with investigators. As of publication, the Seattle Police Department had not publicly commented about the reported incident. The case does not appear in recent entries on the department’s public blotter. At the time of publication, no arrest had been publicly announced.
