We Are About to Thrive With This Nic Cage Spider-Man Series

Look: we know yet more Marvel content doesn’t quite get the fanfare it did in the halcyon days of The Avengers. But the upcoming release of Spider-Noir, starring the legend Nicolas Cage, might just bring the hype back.

That sentiment has only been heightened by the recent release of shots from the Amazon MGM production. The images showcase Cage and his superhero alter ego in various dark and dreary spots that really show off the atmospheric vibe of the show, as well as a number of other characters.

In Spider-Noir Cage plays Ben Reilly, a hardboiled private investigator who, if it weren’t for his secret super powers, would belong in a Raymond Chandler novel. The grizzled character lives in an alternate universe of New York in the 1930s, complete with the iconic fashion and aesthetics. The series is an expansion of a character from the critically acclaimed animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, who was originally voiced by Cage.

The notoriously fickle Marvel fandom does appear to be ready to love this show, with the images garnering a lot of praise online. Cage is of course a living legend, and while the quality of his work definitely varies, there’s no doubt he brings something special to every single performance.

His supporting cast is also full of quality. Lamorne Morris (New Girl) plays a determined journalist, and legendary Irishman Brendan Gleeson is treading familiar water as a New York gangster. Li Jun Li (Sinners) has also been given prominence in the recently released snaps, which implies her nightclub singer character will get plenty of screen time.

Although Spider-Man is a Marvel character, this show is not being produced and distributed by the all-powerful MCU. Instead, it forms part of the Sony Spider-Man Universe, or SSU. The series has been in development since 2023, and Cage has been attached since 2024. Spider-Noir is set to be released in Spring 2026, and will be available on Prime Video.
