Netizens joke about Ghislaine Maxwell’s fate ahead of her testimony before US Congress

On Monday, Jeffrey Epstein’s business partner and fellow sex offender and trafficker, Ghislaine Maxwell, is expected to make a virtual appearance for a closed-door deposition from the Texas prison where she is currently serving a 20-year sentence. The same was earlier scheduled for August 2025, but was postponed by Oversight Committee chairman James Comer after he received a request from Maxwell’s lawyers who wanted to wait for a Supreme Court ruling on her case.

Upon learning that Ghislaine Maxwell will be testifying in the Jeffrey Epstein case on Monday, people on the internet have a wide range of opinions and theories about the event. Most of them are joking about it, with some suggesting that Maxwell would commit suicide ahead of her hearing to avoid testifying and possibly naming names that would put several powerful men in danger. One of the posts concerning the incident, which has gained significant momentum on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), is by Normal Island News, which occasionally delves into satire. A small excerpt from the article reads:

Ghislaine Maxwell has tragically taken her own life tomorrow night, hours before she was scheduled to testify to congress about the Epstein files. It is understood Maxwell committed suicide due to doubts she would blame everything on Russia.”

It continues:

At the time of the suicide, the cameras to Maxwell’s cell were switched off and the guards were sleeping. This has sparked online conspiracy theories, suggesting Maxwell did not kill herself. These conspiracy theories are deeply insensitive, considering Maxwell’s friends are pretending to be in mourning.”

While the aforementioned text constitutes the body of the article addressing Ghislaine Maxwell’s future death, the headline reads: “Ghislaine Maxwell sadly passes away tomorrow.” The article has definitely turned heads, with several people trying to decipher the truth behind it. That being said, it can be ascertained that the claims made in the article hold no truth, which I am sure many would have figured out with the usage of the word “tomorrow” in the headline and the body. However, despite that, many have been drawn to believe that the contents of the article are true, with several pages on X reporting the incident as news.

Ghislaine Maxwell pleads the Fifth during her deposition

A lot of people were looking forward to hearing what Ghislaine Maxwell had to say, especially following the significant amount of information that was released in relation to the Jeffrey Epstein case. However, they were all disappointed when she decided to invoke her Fifth Amendment Rights during her deposition, choosing not to answer any questions.

Following the outcome of the deposition, Nancy Mace, who has been one of the few individuals who have persistently pushed for bringing Epstein’s victims to justice, expressed dissatisfaction. In a statement, she said, “Today was Ghislaine Maxwell’s opportunity to answer the questions the American people deserve answered. She refused. She’s shielding powerful people who participated in Jeffrey Epstein’s network of child abuse and predators. She would rather stay silent than expose the predators she enabled, and she’s made it clear that protecting the guilty matters more to her than giving victims the truth they deserve.”
